The Lost Gods Of England
by Brian Branston

In his book
The Lost Gods of England,
(Thames and Hudson, London, 1957)
Brian Branston

goes deeply and thoroughly
into the origins of the English and their people
as being traceable to a people from the East.

Branston's alleged origin
for the English ancestors in Britain
corresponds in conclusion to a more recent book
Picts and Ancient Britons
(Third Millennium Publishing, 1998)
by Paul Dunbavin 1998
which traces the Picts back to the Baltic region.

According to Branston, the Eastern influence, however,
this occurred even before 2300 BC,
by a people with rounded skulls,
who buried their dead in individual graves,
something first attested in
Latvia in Northern Europe.

These new people brought
the Indo-European language with them.

Indeed, as Branston notes,
all evidence points to an origin on the Baltic Sea,
an origin which Branston places

on the southern tip of the Scandinavian Peninsula.

As Branston notes,
the old English God was the Sky Father Djevs or Deivos
which we find in Sanskrit Dyaus, Greek Zeus, Latin Jovis,
and most closely in Latvian D(z)ievs or Dievs "God".

All in all, this is probably the best book written
on the ancient origins of the peoples of Britain
and it is recommended as reading to everyone.
