THE 400-YEAR MONUMENT
OF MARIETTE
WHO WAS NUBTI THE OMBIC ONE?

FOUND AT TANIS

The 400-year Monument found at Tanis
is dated to the period of Sethos and/or Ramses by the scholars.

PUBLISHED BY MARIETTE

It was published by Mariette in 1865, whence its name.

400-YEAR RECORD

This monument tells us that 400 years had passed
from the "unkown" pharaoh Nubti (the Ombic One) to Sethos viz. Ramses.

NUBTI THE OMBIC ONE

Eduard Meyer writes:
(translated from the German by Andis Kaulins):
"The strangest thing about the Monument ... is its date of 400 years after the King Nubti, whose title is given as if he were still a living king. It is generally assumed today that this king ... was not a human ruler but the God Seth, who ruled under his name Nubti, the ombic one, during the dynasty of Gods. I can not accept this explanation. It is completely unthinkable that God Seth ... ruled 400 years previous ... among ... human rulers, who, as everyone knows, ruled thousands of years ago."

Meyer goes on, however, to show that the monument is legitimate and must be taken seriously, placing the rule of Nubti around 1670 BC.

In our analysis and chronology we initially thought this was Moses, but since Exodus occurred 480 years prior to the Battle of Kadesh this would be too early. Since we place the start of the rule of Ramses II (King Solomon) at 1152 BC, this would thus appear to be the Pharaoh Ahmose (the Biblical Joshua), whose name is also given as NEB-pehtire, whose reign started the New Kingdom - which was still ongoing at the time of Sethos and Ramses II.
