The Alphabet & the Origins of Writing

My new print & ebook
shows that modern alphabets are based on ancient alphabets rooted in syllabic scripts of the ancient world (Sumer, Egypt, Iran, Anatolia, Crete, Cyprus)

The Prehistoric Survey

This page speculatively presents
a possible survey of Salisbury Plain by the ancients.
The data is not as close as it could be,
so whether this actually took place is a matter of opinion,
depending on what kind of survey accuracy we require
of the men who lived five thousand years ago.

The White Horse of Uffington in the Vale of the White Horse
Note that this likely could NOT have been a horse originally, because of the excessively long tail. I am guessing it was the lizard Lacerta in an astronomical frame of reference.

Major Triangulation Points for Ancient Survey of Salisbury Plain

Terrestrial Pythagorean triangulation of the Salisbury Plain
by the prehistoric peoples of Britain arguably utilized three major points of terrestrial reference sighted to heavenly stars - as possibly (and speculatively) shown on the Pictish Cross Slab of Rossie Priory
(found on the back cover of the official Ordnance Survey map of Ancient Britain by RCAHMS, and showing a figure holding a measuring stick).

These 3 points were (so we allege)
marked later
by 3 gigantic
chalk figures
near the actual points of triangulation.

These three figures are:

1. The Long Man at Wilmington,
near Eastbourne ["East-born"] and Beachy Head.

2. The Cerne Giant at
Cerne Abbas, Winterbourne ["West-born"], north of Dorchester (the triangulation point is at the hole in the artificially flattened Trendle). The Cerne Giant was called Hele ("hele" is Anglo-Saxon for Welsh "ele" as "angle" of the triangulation).

3. The famed White Horse of
Uffington, SW of Oxford (Uffington Castle) which is near Wayland's Smithy and the nearby Dragon Hill, which could ostensibly have marked Draco at Mid-Heaven, i.e. North.

Go to the still speculative
Dimensions of the Salisbury Triangulation.

Triangulation of
Salisbury Plain

Pharaonic Egyptians
had a triangulation
they called
mr (mer in
Latvian is "measure").

This right triangle is
described by
Tompkins in
Secrets of
the Great Pyramid
Galahad Books, N.A.,
1997, p. 377:
(>>> opposite column)

Site Locations

White Horse

Old Sarum

Tompkins writes
"If a
right triangle has an
angle of 36 degrees
and the
longer side is 100,
hypotenuse is
2 / phi 100
= 123.6068,

This was also the triangulation

Degrees Distance of
the Hypotenuse is:
10125 seconds of arc
which is equal to

1/128th of a circle.

Please note that no large construction on land can be done without survey. Indeed, it may be no coincidence that three US Presidents worked as surveyors: Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln, and these are generally ranked by historians among the best Presidents the USA has ever had.
You have to "know your land".
