The Chronology of Ancient Reigns
and Astronomy

Chronology is one of the most vexing problems
for ancient research.

For example, the unusual numbers in the Old Testament of the Bible
point to serious problems raised by ancient chronology.

Methuselah allegedly lived 969 years?
or is a different astronomical count intended?
"Moons" is of course a possibility here.

Adam's son Seth is born when Adam is 130 years?

or is this seasons? or measured somehow by the stars?

Enoch allegedly lived 365 years?
rr were astronomical "days" of another kind intended there?

What "time-cycles"
were actually at the base of ancient chronology and calendration?

Bsed on our research, we think that the ancients
compressed their idea of the "order" of the universe
into mathematics and astronomy, as the first science (so Bertrand Russell)
and this also applied to the calculation of the reigns of their kings.

Eusebius wrote
regarding Manetho's lists
for the length of the rule of Egyptian Pharaohs that:

"ALL [reigns] were astronomy".

The likely secret to ancient chornology
is thus stated in ancient sources quite clearly:
 it is conceivably ALL astronomy.

Indeed, the more we research ancient eras the more we see
that ancient man was obsessed with the heavens,
which were surely not only a tremendous riddle
but which surely served to form man's first belief systems.

Much of what we discuss on LexiLine pages
-- see the Quick Index --
relates to astronomy.

We are convinced, for example, that ancient reigns in the Bible
were calculated over the long term by heliacal rising and setting stars.
We have made some attempts to show how this worked,
e.g. see

the Sumerian Sons of God.

We also think this applies
to the Biblical Patriarchs
to the Pharaohs of Egypt
who were all assigned
a "heavenly realm"
to correspond to their earthly reign
in the best "hermetic" tradition,
i.e. "as above", "so below".

In some cases
we have been successful to provisonally identify these heavenly realms
and in others not.

There are numerous astronomical variables and other imponderables that make calculation difficult.

Take a look, for example, at our

Absolute Chronology of the Ancient World by Astronomy

- which is a speculative work still in progress.

We think we are on the right track, but the track is very old, and hard to follow.

Besides, even if we were right in some particulars, how could that be proven?

There are few probative proofs available anywhere
and that is why most researchers avoid chronology.

There are simply too many pitfalls, and what is to be gained?

Indeed, mainstream scholars keep moving the playing field,
e.g. by changing parameters of radiocarbon dating, for example,
so that things relied on for fixed chronology last year
evaporate into nothing the next year.

AMS Ultrafiltration of ancient bone is one example.

We are very skeptical of this recently developed method,
which is changing the chronological dating
of ancient bones by thousands of years.

Such massive change from previously accepted dates leads us to ask
whether radiocarbon dating by ultrafiltration
might be giving us even more inaccurate chronological dates than we had before,
by filtering out the ACTUAL bone collagen we are trying to date
and leaving only the oldest "earth-based" biological carbon-containing contaminants?

That seems to be the case for the erroneously named "Red Lady" of Paviland, who was actually a male.
If the bones were buried in red ochre for thousands of years, then the red ochre, if older, is what is being dated, because the red ochre was made with other organic substances and would have contaminated the bone.

The recent redating of the "Red Lady" of Paviland to something like 29000 years old indicates that there are serious problems with the AMS Ultrafiltration Method, pushing back sophisticated human burial practices tens of thousands of years and putting red ochre burials into a completely different age entirely than they belong. Nonsense.
