Malta
Neolithic Remains

Malta and Sicily
have a rather unique ancient bond
as far as archaeology is concerned.

Both have similar neolithic pottery
from a period of human history
when there were apparently no boats or ships.

The only rational explanation
for the comparable pottery at both locations
is that Malta must have been connected
at some recent historical time
to the same European land mass as Sicily.

Through the tectonic plate movement
of the African continental plate
against the European continental plate
of the surface of the earth,
some of the land
must have "fallen" into the sea fairly recently.
Is there evidence for this?
And if so, when did it happen?

On Malta
there are wagon ruts which
just stop in mid air
at the high end of a cliff
which drops straight down into the ocean below,
just as if the rest of the cliff
had just dropped into the sea
at some fairly recent historical time.

This makes sense when we realize,
as noted in the Encyclopaedia Britannica,
that
"The main physical characteristic
of Malta Island
is a well-defined escarpment
that bisects it along the Victoria Lines Fault
running along
the whole breadth of the island
from Ras ir-Raheb (east of Nadur Tower)
to the coast northeast of Gharghur...

[T]he uplands are separated
from the surrounding areas by blue clay slopes,
while undercliff areas are found
where the coralline plateau has fallen
and forms a subordinate surface
between the sea
and the original shore."
